1. How did you decide on a career in massage therapy?
I decided on a career in Massage Therapy after 20 years in high stress jobs. I was drawn toward helping people feel better
2. Tell us about your practice?
I am an Integrative Health Practitioner for St. Gertrude’s Health and Rehabilitation Center in Shakopee, MN. This facility includes Transitional Care, Assisted Living, Long Term Care and a large Physical Therapy in & outpatient. My practice includes many healing energy modalities that have all been built upon the base of Massage Therapy. I have the opportunity to work on people who welcome healing and pain reduction for a variety of conditions. I am currently teaching classes to staff on a variety of modalities so that we can offer this in daily cares. Comfort Massage being the most popular.
3.What have you found to be successful to build your practice?
The success of my practice has been to keep adding certification level Integrative Health Therapies. I always use Massage as my base as it seems everything is built upon that theory. It has been very exciting to be part of bringing Massage into acceptance by the health community in a health care setting.
4. Why did you join the AMTA?
I joined the AMTA because of the information on how Massage relates to health care. There research and work toward public awareness has been good. I also like the offering of insurance and discounts.
5. What more can the AMTA MN Chapter do for you?
I will soon be retiring but can not state how important it is that offering valid classes for working in a health care setting should be forefront. It is how I built my “second” job into a rewarding full-time career.
